STATEMENT: My work features human animal hybrids; primarily the combination of people and birds. Since I was a child I have had a fascination with winged creatures. I see them as messengers traveling at a spiritually higher realm. The hybrid creatures are meant to be metaphors of our soul or unconscious.
The use of symbols such as monocles, hats, and wings express the duality between who we really are and how we want people to see us.
I hand build my functional sculptural boxes using low fire paper clay. The surfaces are decorated with stamped words and a variety of finishes, including oxides, under glaze, and glaze.
